The Fair Labor Standards Act:- Overtime and Child Care Employees

Participants will be lead through the often confusing Fair Labor Standards Act, including the new FairPay Update which became effective in August of 2004.  The FairPay update represent the first comprehensive overhaul of overtime pay regulations in more than 50 years.  Child care agency owners and directors have long been confused by the detailed terminology of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as by the fluctuating position the Department of Labor takes on issues of paying employees for training hours mandated by the state or for work done at home.  Participants will be engaged in discussions ranging from employee classification, salaries and actual job duties.  Participants will be engaged in brainstorming to find alternative scheduling, and pay solutions in an attempt to alleviate the budgetary stress the Fair Labor Standards Act may impose.
